It always bugs me when I see conferences do their “last chance to register” email. I mean, I know it’s standard operating procedure; hell, I’m probably going to do one today. But it still bugs me. It’s one of those “marketing speak” things that just feels insincere.
So why am I doing one today? Because it’s true. This is pretty damn close to your last chance to register for Defrag. One, we’re 8 days out, so you need to get on the ball if you’re gonna get a flight, hotel room, etc. And, two, we’re going to sell out (I’m guessing sometime later this week, or first thing next week latest). Bottom-line: if you’re coming, get it done now.
If you’re a woman in tech, I REALLY hope you’ll join us. We’ve been working on special things all year around Defrag and women in tech. We had the Kauffman Foundation dedicate half of their scholarship admissions to females. We got involved with the NCWIT, and have Defrag sponsors donating over $8,000 dollars toward a program that helps high school educators more effectively teach young women in computer science. We even have two Colorado educators who have won that NCWIT award coming to Defrag to see what the hoopla is all about. And to top it all off, Mollie Rusher from On3 is hosting a special luncheon for the women in tech that come to Defrag. So, like I said, if you’re a woman in tech - I REALLY hope you’ll choose to join us.
Lastly, I just opened up 10 student passes for Defrag. We get a ton of students that ask for access every year, and as we look to expand the defrag community (while still capping attendance), I decided to set aside a very small number of passes this year. They’re 1/10th the cost of what it costs to register normally, and all you need is a valid student ID to show at the registration desk. So, if you’re a student, take advantage of that one.
Beyond that, we’re locked and loaded, and this puppy’s gonna happen! It’s almost like it’s your “last chance” to register for Defrag.
